I think I have to be a resident over here for five years before I can do the
citizenship test. Not sure what the rules are for the UK (or anywhere else)

I'm not sure what happens if I fail it - I assume I just keep my legal
resident status... the test is expensive, though, so it's not something you'd
*want* to fail. Funny thing about it is that I have to know all sorts of stuff
that everyone I know over here forgot within a couple of years of leaving
school ;-)
