Hmm, I would have thought it has an ECU - I had a late '90s Rover 216 with the
Honda engine at one point and I'm pretty sure that it did. It's probably not
nearly as complex as a modern one, but I suspect that it still has something
monitoring the throttle position, airflow, crank position etc. and telling the
injectors when to fire.
