Jaycar are a good place to look for automotive add-on kits (that'll be 
www.jaycar.com). I believe most sensors are analogue, reasonably 
standard and can be picked up on ebay or breakers yards. That said, on 
an old engine with a distributor, just monitoring the ignition would be 
very useful...
