I've made a couple of silly posts so far, but I'd like to make a
serious comment about what I feel about this discussion.

Personally, I don't mind the off-topic posts in the slightest, but the
arguments about them have really bothered me - particularly when
valuable list members seem to have left.

It can't be that hard to filter them, skim read or skip over them
entirely, surely? There have been loads of posts about ADSL that I'm
not very interested in, and I've just skipped over them without a
thought. It only took a few seconds. Unless there are people on here
with serious speed or bandwidth issues, in which case a separate list
would save them some trouble.

Out of all the people who don't want off-topic posts, how many have
such a technical reason, and how many simply have a bee in their
bonnet about it?
