That's why I designed the "Serial Tube" protocol back in 1994-ish.
It implements the Tube protocol over a single byte-wide data link
channel, such as a serial link (http://mdfs.net/tube/Serial). The
6502 Serial Tube Client doubles as a Host filing system if used on
a BBC. Or.... turn the BBC into a Tube Client!
I've got a partially completed ARM Serial Tube Client, it'll
probably be the next one I get around to finishing.
