Half-right. It's byte-serial, bit-parallel. That means it sends 8 bits 
at a time (one "byte"), in sequence.

Unless you're using Commodore kit, in which case the "IEC-Bus" disc 
drive interface (a fairly close relation to IEEE488) really IS serial.
