I should have known that telling anybody I had a job would jinx it.
I've just been fired, where %BIGCORP%="Dixons KNOWHOW telephone
customer support", after two weeks, one day and four hours.

In my employment termination interview, the reasons I was given were:

* I had been observed eating my lunch in the dining room, and not
in the coffee bar with my collegues. (It never occured to me to
try and balance my lunch on my knee and eat it in the coffee bar)

* It was believed that I did not have sufficient customer-facing
skills (that I had neither been trained in or tested in yet, we're
only two weeks into a 6-week training course, skills I had been
using for the last 11 years in my previous job)

* I had not asked for a KNOWHOW wristband (we had been told that
it was not part of the uniform (therefore not covered by the Must
Wear Uniform clause), it was there as a visible signal that you
had the KNOWHOW attitude and knowledge (I had not yet gathered
sufficient feedback evidence that I had yet gained this attitude
and knowledge) and then when asked for we would have to say why
we wanted the wristband (I did not yet have an answer for that
question).

Oh well. Popped into the Job Centre on the way home.

It was occassionally refered to as "the mainframe".

It does seem to work ok. The only thing the GUI can't do is cancel a
misbooking, you have to go through the terminal yourself for that. That
may be a decision not to make cancelling a booking easy to do and force
you to make a specific action to do it.
