I think the value of this would take way too long to explain.
For an idea, however, look at Rob's viewdata site - now Wiki articles
can describe viewdata right down to the wobbling of bits on the phone
wires, but it doesn't give a "feel" of what sort of things the system
offered.
These days, young'uns don't seem to understand why you might want to
turn scripting off, they having been used to it so don't know otherwise.
Can they really understand how Fidonet worked? Or BBSs? Viewdata is like
a BBS with a different predentation. None of which is like web pages,
chatrooms, Twitter, Facebook, or Cloudy-y things.
If somebody thought to keep a copy, it should be possible to put
together a real example. If nobody keeps a copy, the best we could
manage is to fake up something, but it won't be real. Rather like how
medieval and Roman people are always portrayed in dull colours, mostly
because all we have to work with are faded remnants. Turns out, they had
colours...
Likewise, we don't know what dinosaurs looked like, we can only guess
based upon the remains we have found, but they may well have been bright
pink with yellow polka dots. But all we have are bones, no skin, so we
guess based upon dinosaur-like things we know now - such as crocodiles.
See? So there is a reason to consider preserving this sort of thing...
Best wishes,
Rick.
