Subject: Risc PC (Was 'Minitel in France')

Hi,

Thanks for the MEMC datasheet. Odd formatting, but it is a higher quality
than the one I have. Mmm, just looked to see what UpdateMEMC 64, 64 actually
does. Fiddle ROM access time.

Yes, I figured the book would be too late, though it'll be of interest for a
background to the later ARM's TLB/MMU system. I'm on and off playing with an
embedded ARM926.

I can understand developing on a PC, when the system got more complicated,
like Arthur -> RISC OS, the PC might have afforded more capabilities due to
more memory and processing power than a 6502 system.

Blue Streak board? Wasn't the PC plugin called Springboard? That is the
origin of the various "Brazil" references in the header files, no? I wonder
what became of Brazil?

Best wishes,

Rick

I suspect it doesn't... this is in ARM6/7 era. I think the above was ARM's
first published databook. Their early 1990s post-Acorn datasheets etc were
typeset in Impression... I wonder if you can recognise it from the
typesetting of the book.

The MEMC datasheet might be interesting:
http://www.g7jjf.com/acornArm/MEMC_Datasheet_Sep86.pdf

I have this book:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acorn-RISC-Machine-Family-Manual/dp/0137816189/

(from 1990) which has essentially the same datasheet in a more nicely
arranged form. The endpapers are interesting... describe all VLSI's tools
for developing for ARM 2 on a PC. Did anyone ever see their Blue Streak
board? Can't have sold many.

Theo
