What defines "good"? :-) My 'testing' beeb was built from surplus parts and 
I never did have a proper PSU for it - I hung wires out the back with 
connectors on the ends and ran it with a spare PC (AT) PSU. Did the job 
nicely...

Other than transformers, is there anything in them that's unobtainable or 
can't be replaced with an equivalent? (I suppose even transformers can be 
rewound, but that's probably the point where I'd call it a day and seek a 
replacement unit :-)
