I suppose it should be possible to hack out all the menu code, and then all 
that it needs is a pixel-based* drawing surface; no need for a "full" GUI. 
Whether the code's written to make that easy or not, I don't know - but I 
assume it is to some extent, just to make porting to different platforms 
easier.

* and that could be something remote across a network, rather than a local 
display - assuming that the network will handle it :-)
