Subject: Acorn Electron Repair - Replace 6502 (unlikely)

Hi,

> Most of the connector is wired direct to the CPU.

Hmm, seems a possible cause, certainly. I don't recall ever suffering a
static failure (that I know about), but some people can find rather inventive
ways to mess up kit. My favourite "WTFingF?" moment is probably the person
unknown who made a floppy disc from emery paper and littered the inside
of the floppy with crushed bits of the tips of red-head matches. That was
one Beeb boot that sent the teacher screaming from the room. It was funny
in the same way toilet humour is funny - you laugh then you feel dead embarrassed.

You'll need to ensure a replacement is pin compatible. I think a 65C02 will
work okay (but note that games or such using illegal instructions would fail),
not sure sure about the more recent WDC chips, best check a datasheet if
not picking up an original.
That said, somebody here may have a 6502 or two kicking around...

Best wishes,

Rick.
