FWIW, the MDFS only works with a particular, special type of tape drive
which presents itself as a SCSI direct access device (i.e. like a hard
disk). The vast majority of tape drives are sequential access and there
is basically no hope of getting the MDFS to drive them without some
interposed intelligence.

My plan, as and when I finish building my house and have time to work on
the Beeb again, was to use something like an SD card to emulate the
tape.
