Subject: Expensive Atoms
Hi Jules,
I often wondered if the Science Musem has working ones on display, but
living at Halifax we tend not to have time to have a look when we go the
200miles south.
Also wondered about Philips Cassette tape recorder as I have one badged as
"world Radio" but Identical to a Philips one . When I got it the wholesaler
had never sold one before so wanted paying in cash before he ordered it.
Then when it came the government had decided that rather than it being a tax
free educational aid, it could be used for entertainment and I had to pay
Purchase tax on it ! -- those were the daze !!
Tom
That's still nuts (at least I think it is), but I can understand how the
MK14 has more of a place in computer history (particularly British) and so
pushes the price up - same with things like ZX80s, System 1 etc.
An Atom's just "early-ish" and occupies a gap between those early,
desirable "home" computers and the later commodity machines (BBC B,
Spectrum, C64 etc.), so one selling for that much - no matter what the
condition - kind of boggles my brain :-)
cheers
Jules
