Thank you for the quick reply.
I'd not spotted the fault finding mode in the service manual, so thank you 
for pointing that out.
Now to find a TV still with a scart input.
The monitor for the Doomsday system is something else that needs repairing.

As long as you have the service manual you?ll be fine. Pop it into 
faultfinding mode and it?ll tell you what?s failing on an overlay on the 
screen - most likely the lens is dirty and can?t focus, it needs to pass 
focusing tests to spin the disc (which is one of the final steps).

It could also be the perpendicular focusing mechanism - the motors have a 
habit of seizing.
