It's not up to the terminal to decide what is a delete, it's upto the
host - in Viewdata terms.

Any host which doesn't undertand that is borked.

Logon to CCl4 (which is fully Viewdata compliant), and notice how the
logon screen differs - I locate to the logon field after the frame is
displayed and then "." to the logon field end and then "VDU 8" back to the
logon field start.

The way you have it, any char 8 deletes what is there (ie. the dots).

For "delete" internally VHost in Viewdata mode, does do 8,32,8 but it is
the host which does it not the terminal.
