Yes, you should be able to find good Public Domain modem programs out there.
I'm pretty certain there's a Rainbow overlay for MDM714; you can check the
SIMTEL20 treasure trove for that. I think KERMIT is also implemented
for the Rainbow, and that's a good "packetizing" file transfer and
terminal program to mainframes and minis as well as micros.
One thing, though..you not only don't NEED a full 25-wire cable for that
RS-232 connection: you don't WANT all those wires hanging out there! All
they do is pick up interference, radiate, etc. Check your RS232 pin
requirements for the modem you get and your Rainbow, and only hang wires
for the pins required.
Have fun hanging the Rainbow on a Wire: that's the best part of owning
my Decision I -- talking with the NetLandians and looting all that great
Public Domain treasure.
