Subject: mdm71x - missing feature/bug

There exists what I think is an important oversight in the
design of the Smartmodem dialing code for MDM712 (and I
assume, later versions). That is, if you select Pulse dialing
in the configuration file, it will not let you use alternate
dialing (i.e. SPRINT, MCI). The other item that goes along
with this is that the dialing routine will not let you switch
from pulse to tone dialing in mid-stream.

What I want to do is this:

       555-5555,,,,,T999,777
       ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^
       -------- ---- ---
       pulse dial tone dial
         for for
    switchboard access code and extension

As it stands now, I have to use Terminal mode and type the
long string in each time. I wish one of the maintainers of
MDM7xx would fix this problem and send me a copy (I don't
have the source or I'd fix it myself; I discovered this
Tracing with DDT - ugh!).
