Subject: need program to compare .com files

Try HEXDIF.COM.  It prints the differences between two .COM files in
both hex and ascii.  It's available from SIMTEL20 as:

Filename                       Type     Bytes   Sectors     CRC

Directory MICRO:<CPM.GENCOM>
HEXDIF.COM.1                   COM       6528   51 =  33H  CC7CH
