Subject: CP/M disk space management

Josef Moellers asked about technical details of CP/M's management
of the file structure. I was unable to get this reply through
to him directly.

My column in the The Computer Journal two months ago covered this
topic extensively. Jay Sage's message several days ago gave info on
subscribing.

Two tools not already mentioned, of possible use to you are:

The DU utility's M (map) command will show allocation blocks that
are in use, and (marked by an '*') those that are in use by more than
one directory entry.

The SAP utility (5.3 or later) will alphabetize a directory.
