Neither of the proposed alternatives scans, and the rhyming is not
good.

  An out-of-date student called Flynn
  Looks for op-codes that never were in
    The documentation;
    Experimentation
  Is needed, but patience wears thin.

Still not very satisfactory (in particular the sentences span the
lines in a rather awkward way), but it does scan.
