Welcome to the first release of HackROM.

We are very interested in feedback, be it positive or negative, on our
ROM. We can be contacted via email at jkb@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk (also

I have split the distribution over several directories for neatness sake.
These can all be combined into one directory if this makes things easier.
However you may have trouble fitting that many files on a single side of disk
unless, like us, you use a DFS capable of 62 file.

To assembled you require Alan Phillip's 65C02 Assembler. The code has been
tested only on a BBC B. The simplest way to start is then to use:

*ASSEMBLE M.HACKROM -O HACKROM -W

However, for a more general and flexible method, the *MAKE utility should be
used. This itself can be assembled up from source using:

*ASSEMBLE S.MAKE -O MAKE -W

Then, once armed with the *MAKE utility, you can assemble all, or just part,
of HackROM into either a ROM or an executable (*HACK). "*MAKE ALL_ROM" and
"*MAKE ALL_HACK" will make the ROM and the *HACK commands respectively.

Should you wish to edit these source files using WordWise you will find that
it objects to the use of TABs. Wordwise understands character 0335 (octal) as
the TAB character for some bizarre reason. There are three alternatives.
1) Use another wordprocessor
2) Hack the wordwise ROM so that it uses proper TABs (011) instead
3) Use the WWconv script in the top-level directory.

Naturally, number 2) is the nicest :-)
