IIRC, by default, Pine will start replies at the top, and place the sig at the
top. You have to change the configuration to get it to put the sig at the bottom
(but as you say, I think it still plonks the cursor at the top). 

I'm using Netscape, which also behaves like this (sig at bottom, but start reply
at top). 

Speaking for myself, I prefer the replies at the top so I don't have to scroll
through six pages of cr*p to get to a "me too" stuck on the bottom.
