I tend to find I seem to get messages in bursts - two or three days of traffic
followed by two or three days of no messages at all. I'm not sure if the list
just goes quiet every so often, if I really am only seeing messages in bursts,
or if I'm missing messages during the dead periods for some reason.

that's probably just the nature of email, unfortunately.
