Would it not be possible to hook to an event to check and (if necessary, 
restore)? I know there's a centisecond ticker... is there a second 
ticker? If so, a few instructions once a second shouldn't be too much of 
a burden. If not, a couple of instructions on cS (or VSync for less?) to 
count 'x' ticks between checks?

Just some random thoughts...
