Subject: [OT] ADSL capabilities

I know this is off-topic, but I thought I'd ask the list, the IQ of the
people in this list seems far greater than most that skulk around the
forums!

I've been having terrible issues with ADSL Sync speed disappearing to
zero since Jan '09 (and still complaining to our damn ISP, the service
was fine from July 2006 - Jan 2009.).

After finally getting BT Openreach out today to complete tests, they
state we are at the very end of ADSL (3609 metres), and it looks like BT
are going to throw in the towel and say tough!

What I don't understand, is it was working from July 2006 - Jan 2009,
other people in the Hamlet, all seem to be having no issues (there's
only 14 houses), of approx 5 that have ADSL broadband, they all use the
same telegraph pole in the hamlet, so we are all going to be of similar
length, and they have no issues. There's no more cables in the ground,
for us to switch to, as most lines are DACSed.

So I remember reading his post of Mike's, do you think this may help us,
we've tried many routers, Cisco (real no Linksys), Draytek and the
problem which is intermittent still occurs. For a tenner, this may help!

All tests today BT did, are ALL in the GREEN. No Red or Amber warnings
on any.

Interestingly though, the engineer used a Voyager, and got 10db SNR and
52 Att, ours is usually 7 db SNR and 41 Att.

Thanks guys for picking your brains.

Andrew

<shrug> I got a brand new Netgear DG834GT from ebay for 2 quid. It was
Sky branded and had the Sky firmware, but it was easy to reflash it.
I'm using the DG Team firmware (www.dgteam.ilbello.com). This resulted
in a jump in sync from ca.7200 to 8032, it's stayed there since and has
been rock solid.

The DG834GT is known for making the most of poor phone lines.
