On the other hand, your debug options on the Beeb are somewhat limited, 
while under emulation they can be quite comprehensive.

You aren't using the PC *only* as a Beeb emulator. It can do other stuff 
too. ;-)

I wonder about the proposed PC-in-a-C64-box how they'll handle the fact 
that no '80s home computer had as many keys as a typical modern keyboard.

Depends, I guess, on your need for them. I can play Chuckie Egg quite 
happily on the emulator.

My netbook is pretty quiet.

I just close down the lid. I don't power cycle or reboot frequently. 
Just close the lid, come back later where I left off.

Indeed. Some parts just aren't available these days.
