The regular structure helps quite a lot, though the cells all look similar
so it's easy to confuse them.  The main thing is to retain the planarity, so
the perspective doesn't change as it's moved about.  You don't need accurate
control of the stage for this application.

Phil, how good is your microscope/camera setup?  I forget the exact feature
size of the ULA, but it's a few microns.  To get a good enough picture for
recognising layout, I'd say you ideally need 10 pixels per track width, 5
will do but make it harder, 3 is a manual-only job.  Can you do that kind of
resolution?
