MDFS::Software.HADFS

HADFS is a full hierarchial filing system similar to the NFS and ADFS systems. It runs on any 6502-based BBC computer, with any disk hardware. HADFS is freely distributable, but remains copyright © J.G.Harston. NOTE: HADFS before version 5.50 does not support dates after 2012. If you have an earlier version of HADFS you should replace it. I can replace early version HADFS ROMs free of charge. The 5: Check disk dates option of HUtils can be used to check disks for dates that HADFS will misinterpret, and fix them.

31-Dec-2011: Version 5.60 implements full 24-bit disk access, allowing access to up to 4G per drive. Version 5.60 is a pre-release test version before the full release of version 6.00.

System.dsd is C:H:S ordered disk image and System.ssd is H:C:S ordered disk image. The images can be written to disk with the disk image tools in DiskTools, with the HADFS BACKUP program and the RISC OS HADFS Filer. HADFS can be installed on the GoMMC with the program MMCHADFS, instructions are here.

Earlier News:
27-May-2007: Version 5.50 implements the full Acorn 7-bit year range, in plenty of time before HADFS ran out of dates in 2012. All years from 1981 to 2108 are usable.

22-Nov-2005: Version 5.40 fully supports 24-bit disk access. IDE drivers work correctly with the Tube.

22-Nov-2005: HADFS transitional version 5.31 has rearranged workspace to allow full 24-bit drive access. All internal code correctly manipulates 24-bit disk addresses. Preliminary code put in place for 24-bit disks.

24-Oct-2005: HADFS version 5.30 now supports IDE drives natively, without the need for the Support ROM. HADFS version 5 uses 16-bit disk addresses, so drives are split into 16M partitions. Note: IDE access from CoProcessor memory doesn't work properly.

12-Sep-2004: GoMMC drivers are now integrated into HADFS version 5.29 ROM. I am currently testing this and adding 24-bit drive code to allow drives large than 16MB to be used.
