The command is *configure nodir
To mount an ADFS disc you type *dir (or *cat for that matter).
If the computer still hangs, pressing D on startup should at least get you
to a prompt.

The config I use is:
*configure nodir
*configure noboot
*configure lang 12 (=BASIC)
*configure file 13 (=ADFS, or 9 for DFS)
*configure repeat 5
*configure delay 10
*configure floppy (or 'hard' if you have a winchester)
*configure fdrive 0 (if your disc drive complains try 1 2 or 3)
The other configure options are mere window-dressing, you change them when
you feel like it, or when you need to attach a printer etc.
This setup should get things at least working.

R-Power on resets the entire CMOS to zeros. I'm not sure about
DELETE-Power on, but on the Arc I seem to remember that it's slightly less
drastic.
