IIRC, as far as the disk version goes, the first release of Elite had
some bugs in it:
1) You could buy an extra Front Pulse Laser, if you had the cash for it,
and the game would give you credit for exchange of your old FPL, but not
charge you for the new one! This was an easy way to seriously improve
your credit rating!
2) Due to a coding error you never saw and asteriods. I believe the
reason for this was Ian and David were looking for a bug, coded out the
asteroids with a single JMP (there was reason to believe the two were
associated in some way), found the bug but forgot to restore the
asteroids.
That's it as far as I know. I once had both these versions on disk, and
compared them. There were only a few bytes difference, which were both
accounted for by the above bugs.

Nope! It probably has even less, for example no split mode screen. You
can't resize the screen on the Electron. By my calculations thats 2
1/4K less of memory already.

Correct. No other differences apart from a Delete option on the file
menu AFAIA. Also enough memory to get all of the ship data in memory at
once, rather than just a sub set of them.

And the fancy intro, like star wars!!!! If you have the original
version, rather than the doctored version from Ian's web site, get this
by pressing TAB on the Load New Commander screen.
Stuart.
