Yes. Ferranti were used as the backup suppliers. When Acorn ran out of stock
they used Ferranti. There were one or two compatability problems, very minor
though according to letters in Acorn User. If anyone did experience problems
then Acorn sometimes provided a replacement although quite often they said
that the software was not programmed according to Acorn guidelines, whereas
the Ferranti chip met their specs.
