Yes, it's a common problem with Beebs and Masters, usually caused by the
power cord being tightly wrapped around the machine prior to storing it.
Eventually, the cores in the power lead break at the point where they
enter the strain-relief grommet at the back of the power supply.
Either cut the power lead beyond the break and rewire it using fresh
spade connectors (which sounds like what you're about to do) or renew it
completely.
If you doubt your competence to perform the above task in the slightest
way, do entrust the work to a qualified professional.
