You're not doing anything wrong, actually. It's a bug. When I wrote the
code originally, I only had a pseudo-colour X display, so that's all I was
able to test. These days most people have true-colour displays, which is
what causes this problem. I'm hoping to get some time to look at it this
week, since I'm currently "between contracts".
