Subject: Re: BBC serial filing system

Hi All,

The initial system (currently called Mercury) will be serial based. This is
mainly due
to the fact that I want to concentrate on a basic working system rather than
an all singing all dancing system that is never complete.
Secondly there is an inherent problem in using parallel ports in that most
PC's only have one, and in my case that is connected to a printer.
Thirdly although communications via the UP and a printer port does work, it
becomes problematical with an increase in cable length, in other words you
need to have the server and BBC virtually next door to other for reliable
coms. However saying all this once the basic system is functioning I will
start to work on a parallel system.

Has anyone got a circuit diagram of a sideways RAM???

Wayne
