I don't think any of the ROMs you list have the Tube host code in them.
When you turn on the second processor and press control-break, do you
get the startup message "Acorn TUBE 6502 64k"? If not, the second
processor isn't initialising.

The Acorn DFS 1.2 rom you list might be the DNFS: if it is, this should
have the Tube host code in it. Show us what you get if you type *HELP.

(Explanation: for the Tube to work, a small piece of code has to be
loaded at, I think, &0D00. This is only a small stub of code and
usually provided in a ROM where there was spare room to fit it in. I'm
pretty sure Acorn DNFS 1.2 has it; Watford DFS 1.44 should also have it
(the plain English error messages in Watford DFS 1.43 were shortened to
make room for the Tube code in Watford 1.44, so you tend to get more
intelligible error messages from the 1.43 DFS))
