Subject: CUB Monitor and Cumana Disk Drive Woes

Twenty years late I have finally acquired a BBC B, a CUB monitor and a
single Cumana 5.25 disk drive thru the post from advertisers on eBay.
However, when I turn on the monitor all I get the red lamp on the front
right bottom and a high pitched whine, and no text on the screen. I know
that the Beeb works as I tested it before with a TV.
 
This also prevents me right now from telling whether the drive works
with *CAT, which has a more niticeable problem in that the drive lock(?)
on the front doesn't shut correctly, so I have to keep a finger pressed
on it to make sure it sdtays properly shut - at least as far as I can
tell.

Any words of advice in proceding to try to get it all working properly?
