Define "as documented".

The only thing you have to consider is that each attribute, not just
hold/release, can technically "activate" before or after the attribute
itself.

Most "activate" after, but others activate before - flashoff, dblon,
conceal, sepgraph, black, newback and hold.

For most of these it's not an issue where you "activate" the attribute,
but on some occasions it is obvious there's a fault - hold/release is
probably the most obvious one caught out.
