Has some mid conversion utils, some have source code other you have to ask
the author for them. They will be a good starting point.
Also track down a util called asciimidi.

I'll dig this article out for you tomorrow and I'll scan and send it two
you.
Playing tunes through the speaker, you could select a channel and play that.
I have somewhere lying about a midi to mobile phone convert which does do
that. There's some other stuff I have seen in the converter line midi2txt
and txt2midi which I will take a look at.
