Hi,
I have the full acrobat 4 but file sizes are very big from ocr. It is
difficult to correct entries which have not been recognised properly i.e.
editing one line a time. Specification of zones also tricky as well.

Acrobat tries to be many things only some of them it does well. i.e. acting
as a printer driver to capture output. Interpretation web pages but if you
come across a png image it does not want to know or it may attempt to load a
wave or archive file as many pages of binary.

It also not possible to export any of your acrobat documents into other
formats. Direct input from word documents etc fails. Acrobat 5 reportable
better but some say it only as a cosmetic change and bug fixes, and security
updates for people who bother with digital signatures.

Chris

A few ppl discussed OCR software here.

I have very good experiences with Adobe Acrobat. Text recognition is up to
par with the best OCR tools (Omnipage, for example) and checking and
correcting text is much easier. Plus, Acrobat allows you to maintain the
original page layout.

Acrobat costs money (only the reader is free), but of course, a little
creativity can make it a lot cheaper...

About the cutting of magazines: yes, it's sacrilege, but it is the best way
to scan them properly.

Mark.
