It certainly looks like a far safer choice than djvu. Seems fairly stable and
isn't too overcomplicated with flashy features.

As an aside its interesting to note from the section on support that Acorn
were (and pretty much still are) the only company to support PNG properly in
their web browser. Not sure if this was publicised at the time or not, but I
certainly hadn't heard about it.
