Subject: BBC Micro lazy delayed boot!
Thanks for the help so far folks.
Okay we are progressing slowly.
I've eventually found enough logic to complete an 8271 Disc Interface to
replace the WD1770 Disc Interface which appears to have a doggy 1770 chip.
But, I found something very weird with this BBC Micro, I thought at first
that the 8271 chip was faulty, but I've confirmed this is a good working
chip by testing in a working BBC Micro.
When the 8271 chip is inserted, if I power-on the Beeb, I get the first
tone, flashing cursor and 4 seconds later the second tone and the Beeb
boots, and displays usual BBC Computer 32K, Acorn DFS, Basic.
This also occurs when I Press Break, four second delay (but no sounds -
normal), and CTRL-BREAK, four second delay (usual beep).
The Beeb boots/powers-on correctly when No 8271 chip is inserted. But no
Acorn DFS is loaded/present.
Just to remind you, Issue 4 Board, DNFS 1.2. Basic, OS 1.2. No other proms
or upgrades.
I've changed all the disc interface logic, and I still get the same issue.
Any one got any clues, before, I remove the pcb motherboard and start
re-soldering all the joints and sockets.
Regards
Andrew
