Subject: GoMMC ready to be ordered
Allrighty then, here goes :
GoMMC is now ready to be ordered. Please note that this is a
private product and I will not build up stock. Exactly the
number ordered will be made, no more, no less, so get your
order in now (or most likely do without).
To recap, GoMMC is a (small) hardware interface that provides
'floppies on a MultiMedia Card'. It basically allows you to
take all your (physical) floppies, DFS, ADFS, whatever, store
their contents on an MMC (MultiMedia Card) inside your BBC or
Master, and (select and) access them in the usual way, e.g. via
a standard DFS or ADFS. Very, very quickly as well (read/write
speed is in the region of 80 to 130 KB/sec).
GoMMC simply plugs into a ROM socket inside your BBC or Master.
No flying wires. The GoMMC software is stored on the card, and
can be upgraded electronically (it uses something similar to
flash ROM storage).
GoMMC 'sits' between the MMC and your usual filing system, i.e.
it does need one 'companion' : a patched version of that filing
system. If you have sideways RAM, GoMMC can provide this for you
automatically on boot-up. If you don't have sideways RAM, GoMMC
can (given the original image) provide the patched image. This
must then be blown into an EPROM and put in a ROM socket. I can
provide the service of blowing an EPROM, should you require it.
You must, however, own an original copy of the filing system in
question and either provide me with the physical ROM or a 'dump'.
I intend GoMMC to provide patches for as wide a range of filing
systems as possible, within reason (e.g. it probably doesn't make
much sense to support anything but the latest versions). Patches
for DNFS 1.20 (8271 based) and DFS 2.26 (1770 based) are already
available and working perfectly. ADFS 1.3 is next, others will
follow once I get to them.
=46ancy features, like, e.g., selective write protect, may follow
as well. Currently, GoMMC simply allows you to name your floppies
and (surprise ...) select them by name. Otherwise, and this cannot
be stressed enough, it's business as usual. What you were used to
doing under DFS or ADFS with your physical floppies, you can do
with your 'virtual' floppies under GoMMC.
GoMMC, without an MMC card, costs 60 Euro ex. postage and handling.
A suitable MMC card can be delivered with it, at cost. Current
prices are in the region of 35 Euro for 128 MB, or 50 for 256 MB.
Blowing an EPROM is 2 Euro extra. Contact me for the total cost
including p&p.
As indicated, if you want a GoMMC card, get your order in now.
Production will commence in 1 to 2 weeks. After that, orders will
no longer be taken.
You can pay by PayPal, direct bank transfer, or cash.
Any other questions : ask at will.
