Aha. Yes, like you say, this is very similar to what I was planning.
I didn't bother to include any support for fileserving, since I figured
that this could be more easily (and more effectively) implemented using
a PC, or something like a Linksys NSLU2, on the Ethernet side. It
seemed better to stick to a simple bridge design in order to minimize
the component cost. On which topic, I spent a few minutes with Farnell
and produced a draft bill of materials:
