Subject: Re: Econet-Ethernet_bridge?

On the topic of Econet-Ethernet bridges, I did think about writing some
software to do this on an Archimedes machine, so you could talk from an
Econet only machine on one side of the bridge to an AUN machine on the
other side.

I didn't really get all that far with it did seem quite complex, and I
think it would involve some fairly low level ADLC access. Maybe writing
something for Linux would be easier than for RISC OS.

I'm not sure if RISC iX would be of any use, it does talk to Econet and
ethernet, but it requires some pretty specific hardware [1].

My original idea was an A3000 board + PSU in a small box, painted black
and yellow.. why? because it would be a BEE (Bridge Econet Ethernet)
[2] :-)

Alas, I don't have the time or space to do much BBC stuff thesedays, so
I don't think it'll be something I'll ever get around to doing, but
would be an interesting project. It was something that was really
needed when AUN came out, as there wasn't a way to get a BBC on the
Econet to talk to an arc on the Ethernet.

Cheers

Chris

[1] I actually have the required hardware to run RISCiX on ebay at the
moment.
