Subject: MDFS Tapes

Just an update on the MDFS tape story.  After applying the trusty old
procedure of taking something to bits, not doing anything with it and
then putting it back together, I found I got the tape drive to work.  I
think it was probably a very slightly loose ribbon cable which was
causing the problem.

The MDFS is now recognising the tape drive and accessing the tapes
but unfortunately any attempt to format a tape always results in
a "Tape write protected" error.  I have tried the obvious of moving
the write-protect tab on the tapes and using several different tapes
but I always get the same message.

Can anyone help?
