I wasn't going to "reply to all" to this thread, but I couldn't stop
myself,
when replying to this List, I always Hit Reply to All, then delete the
"sender of the post". I don't think it's a big deal!
It doesn't bother me, I work with IT 24/7, and there's strangeness
everywhere, little quirks here and there, you learn to Compromise.
Thanks to the time and efforts to the list manager, it's much
apprecicated.
Regards
Andrew

You're right there - it's more the need to hit reply to all, then remove
the to: field (which is the individual), then change the cc: field to a
to: field on every single message which drives me nuts!
It seems a strange way of doing it; certainly for any mailing list I'm
on well over 90% of traffic is to the list (99% with this list) with the
remainder to individuals, and I suspect that's the case for nearly
everyone here. Maybe there are lurkers here who only ever watch and
reply to individuals - but the list wouldn't exist without those who
publicly contributed, so setting it up to make things easier for them
would just seem more sensible to me.
Still, it's been like this for as long as I remember (OK not true, I
can't remember what the situation was when it was all at York uni) so I
don't expect it'll change. It's the only mailing list I've come across
in the last couple of years that's setup this way though! Plus of course
we're lucky to have it at all, so we can't complain too much :-)
cheers
