Colin,

Remove all the ROMs and check to make sure none of the pins are bent. These
are located at the bottom right of the board, there are five identical
sockets.

Make sure the ROM marked PB04 (OS) is in the left most socket and the ROM
marked PB05 (Basic) is in the rightmost socket.

Don't put in the other ROMs for now.

Press down firmly on the main socketed chips, the 6845 controls the memory
refresh (top 40 pin chip) the processor (middle 40 pin) and user VIA (lower
40 pin)

Then push down on the system VIA located middle left next to the disc
controller, this handles the keyboard and the system timers.

The check the keyboard connector and make sure all the pins are connected,
remove it from the keyboard and the motherboard and pay close attention to
this when reattaching it.

Turn it on and see what happens...

All of this is assuming you haven't tried to install any kind of upgrade
that didn't work properly, or connected an Opus Challenger to the disc
interface socket...

If you're localish to Cambridge, you could drop it round for me to check
over.

Dave ;)
