To expand on this in relation to my earlier post, my statement of "there 
is no volume control" refers a control easily usable by the user, e.g. 
the volume control on one's TV :)

The gain potentiometer (effectively a volume control) is somewhat 
permanent, save for getting the lid off and removing the keyboard 
everytime you want to adjust the volume :)
