I guess you're not using a BBC Master and a pair of new HD floppy drives.

Come on, look at some of the postings about changing the pin assignments for
motor control and drive select. Simply, this was not possible with out
having to change the cable.

No, it is not plug in and use.

That is only true if you put the 3.5" drive as drive 1, but not as drive 0.

But, thanks all the same, for trying to make me look completely stupid...
